Does anyone else suffer sticker shock when perusing through LEGO sets in the toy store? My jaw drops every time I see LEGO sets, such as the Star Wars Death Star,  costing upwards of $400.00! My apologies for the uninvited rant, but why do these little plastic bricks cost so darn much?

My thought?… Possibly because of the high production quality. I imagine there wouldn’t be too many repeat costumers if the little plastic pieces didn’t snap together properly. They also have long-lasting playability. About 50% of the LEGOs my son plays once belonged to me and my little brother (no, I’m not going to tell you how old they are).

With that being said, once in a while I don’t mind shelling out the cash to purchase a new LEGO set.

I know it’s something my son is going to play with repeatedly.

I know it’s going to last.

I know it’s something we enjoy playing with together.

Ninja Turtles Kraang Lab Escape

With the release of the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movie, yesteryears iconic childhood heroes have been reintroduced to the next generation. We haven’t seen the new movie (waiting until it’s on Redbox), but we do love the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movies from the 90s.

The Ninja Turtle Kraang Lab Escape LEGO set had an awesome price point too good to pass up. It’s a small set of 90 pieces with three mini figures and interactive features. The set was pretty easy to put together. In fact, it was the first set we’ve gotten that my 5 year old son put together all by himself!

Some of my son’s favorite elements were the caged enclosure that self destructs when you push as small lever in the back and the flick missiles (small LEGO pieces that actually jet out when you apply pressure to them).  It also included mini-figures: a foot soldier, Kraang and Michelangelo.

If you’re interested in purchasing this set, you can find it on Amazon for about $10. In the LEGO world, I think that’s a really great deal.
